Once you’ve had your Peak Experience, it becomes a story.  The stories of our members and friends and role models are what inspire us to keep climbing and to keep pushing higher.  Starting today, Saturdays are going to be a showcase of stories – your stories.  If you’ve got something to talk about, tell us.  Even if you just send us a short blurb or a photo, we’ll share it with the Peak community.

What we’re looking for:

Articles and photos that focus on outdoor sports with a primary focus on climbing and a secondary focus on hiking and skiing. We’re mostly talking about those latter pursuits as extensions of climbing, so we’re not looking at resort skiing so much as touring and ski mountaineering.

We aim for our content to be of a high standard, so please understand that your work is subject to approval and editing. We believe that everyone has a unique perspective and a voice worth listening to, but not all pieces will fit with our philosophy, style or editorial direction. Take a look at some of our articles for general style and tone. We’re big fans of irreverence and humor but we also have a commitment to informing and educating our audience.

  • Swearing is fine, but no hate language please (i.e. those that disparage a particular race, sexual orientation etc.)
  • A sense of humor comes highly recommended
  • Use your voice and put your personality into your articles.
  • Feel free to share the shit out of your article on FB, Instagram, Myspace, or local community bulletin board.

To pitch or not to pitch?
We don’t require you to send a pitch. That said, it could be a good idea, especially if your article is long. Given that we aim for a high standard of quality, we can’t guarantee that your piece will be accepted, so it might be a good idea to send us some ideas before you put all your effort behind it.

In general, if you’re wondering whether or not a piece will fit here at Shahogen, just think – how will this article benefit, entertain, inform or educate the everyday climber?
